Earthtones Studio

A lot of intersecting inspirations went into the creation of this studio space. First, I wanted to create a modern space relying mostly on the Sun to light the space and shadow to help define the edges. Second, I stepped out of my comfort zone and into a color scheme I’m less familiar with. Earth tones seemed like a great way to do just that and a great name for a music studio space (pun intended).

While thinking about this color scheme I was also reminiscing about a trip my wife and I made to Spain last year (Aug 2019) that inspired the purple, pink, and rust red hues.

After an all night flight we landed in Madrid, grabbed our bags and immediately rented a car to drive to Teruel, Spain (3.5 hours East) in the wee hours of the morning. I'm not sure why either of us thought this was a great idea to drive a long distance on little sleep. Not our smartest decision and I wouldn't recommend it. However, it was a beautiful drive. I remember being struck by how desolate the roads and landscape became once we got out of the city. There were small empty hill towns few and far between so we really felt isolated out there. For much of the drive the scene changed between flat straight roads surrounded by rocky red clay to twisty rolling hills. Maybe it was the earlier morning sun and the lack of sleep but there were some places where the clay soil almost looked purple and pink.
